Alabama Community College System leverages Q-SYS to widen access to education

[De] - Established in 1925, the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) is Alabama’s gateway to world-class, affordable education and technical training. The system consists of twenty-four community and technical colleges, including the Alabama Technology Network and Marion Military Institute, and services more than 168,000 people per year. Recently, ACCS embarked on an ambitious upgrade of their system-wide distance learning facilities, with the goal of creating high-value hybrid spaces to be leveraged by in-person and distance learners alike. In the end, that meant a transformation of over seventy-four rooms across all ACCS campuses. They partnered with The ESB Group for design and installation, who quickly selected QSC as their solution provider. “We knew we needed a repeatable design that was very user-friendly. The faculty are the main users of these rooms, and…

University of Florida graduates to the Q-SYS Platform

[De] The Reitz Union within the University of Florida heralds from humble origins – a simple campaign back in 1922 to raise funds for an on-campus YMCA. Since then, the student union has grown to over 630,000 square feet servicing over 50,000 students. Named after former University President Dr. J. Wayne Reitz, this facility continues to serve as the community center of the campus, providing services and programs to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Within this expansive space is Grand Ballroom, one of the most versatile areas available in the Union – split into eight 45x45-foot salons with the total area measuring roughly 20,000 square feet. The Grand Ballroom is rented out for a host of events but unfortunately, the audio wasn’t living up to the space’s requirements. “I’ll get straight to it – the audio was bad,” explained Lon Vance, Senior…

Virginia Tech selects the Q-SYS Platform to standardize for the future

[De]  As a public land-grant university, Virginia Tech remains committed to teaching, learning, research, and outreach. In 2007, they articulated their long-term future vision with their Advancing Beyond Boundaries ethos. One of the main strategic objectives was to ensure institutional excellence by continually developing “the physical campus and technology infrastructure”. A part of this upgrade in technology infrastructure is the standardization of their audio, visual and control systems across campus. Rob Viers, New Classroom Building AV Manager and Building Manager, explains, “Our system was starting to age. Some of our auditoriums didn’t even have digital signal processing – we still needed to cobble together a USB integration solution for presentations. We knew this was an opportunity for standardization, and we already had a building leveraging the Q-SYS…

Russia’s Leading Luxury River Cruiser Chooses the Q-SYS Ecosystem from QSC

[De] - Vodohod Cruises is one of the premier operators of luxury voyages along Russia’s Volga and Neva rivers and in the Sea of Azov. The M.S. Mustai Karim — named after the Bashkir poet, playwright, and national hero — is their newest and most luxurious ship, sailing between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Accommodating up to 329 passengers, this new ship required a networked AV system for all decks plus localized reinforcement for live and recorded music, and system integrator SMS Pro turned to the QSC Q-SYS Ecosystem and Premium Business Music solutions. SMS Pro consulted with MixArt, the QSC distribution partner for Russia, and chose Q-SYS to drive the Panorama Bar which is the social hub of the ship and host to nightly live performances. A Q-SYS Core 110f unified processor was deployed to manage both audio/video distribution and DSP processing for the space, while two…

QSC KLA Line Array Makes the Honor Roll at Concordia University Irvine

Irvine, CA (May 11, 2021) — [De, Fr, Es] — Orange County-based Concordia University Irvine needed a powerful and flexible P.A. system that could cover everything from lectures to live music to worship services. It had to be loud and clear, but also portable enough to move and share among multiple auditoriums and chapels on campus. Their chief engineer Mario Gonzalez — a lifelong audio professional— immediately knew QSC was the solution. He assembled a KLA active line array system consisting of six KLA12 array loudspeakers, two KS118 subwoofers, and six K12.2 plus four K10.2 powered loudspeakers, all integrated with a TouchMix-30 Pro digital mixer. “I’ve used QSC for most of my audio career,” begins the affable Gonzalez. “When I worked at San Diego State University, we used the original K10 and K12 loudspeakers on ten to fifteen shows every semester. They always…

First opened in August 2020, the Mississippi Aquarium tells the story of Mississippi’s aquatic resources from the Delta to the coastline, delivering an entertainment experience that encourages guests to explore majestic environments, while also playing an active role in research and conservation efforts. As construction of the over 80,000 square feet of exhibits continued, the aquarium began their search for the perfect network AV system to enhance the guest experience, and they chose the Q-SYS Ecosystem, including QSC amplifiers and loudspeakers. Alabama-based integrator ESB Group designed the system around a Q-SYS Core 510i Integrated processor, which manages audio and control processing throughout the facility. QSC Proves Perfect Fit for Automated Modern Multi-Band Rehearsal Spaces at Taylor Sound

Saint Louis Park, MN (November 17, 2020) — [Fr, De, Es] — Taylor Sound is a full-service studio serving musicians in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Located just west of Minneapolis, the complex features rehearsal rooms, on-site recording, and even music video production in a massive, green-screen-equipped room. Facilities manager T. Perry Bowers wanted to increase access for local bands and artists who lacked the budget to lock out a rehearsal space of their own, so he created the Band Share program, in which bands pay for one or two nights per week in a room equipped with a drum kit, backline, and P.A. For the latter, he chose QSC TouchMix-8 and TouchMix-16 touchscreen digital mixers as well as the full range of QSC K.2 Series active loudspeakers. “All three of our Band Share rooms are bookable online, and you can get an access code and come in without…

A Generous Donor Helps The Shepherd’s House Church Achieve a Major Sonic Upgrade with QSC

Fort Worth, TX (October 8, 2020) — [De, Fr, Es] — Robert Wirtz hails from a 30-year career as a recording engineer, a role he still plays at Fort Worth’s Legendary Sound Studio and as proprietor of Ardub Music. Whenever he can, he puts his passion for perfect sound into the service of houses of worship. In nearby Lewisville, the Shepherd’s House Church was struggling with the patchwork P.A. system when, in July, thanks to a last-minute, anonymous donor, the church was able to commission Rob to design the optimal system for their sanctuary. After extensive computer analysis of the room, Wirtz recommended a QSC KLA Series line array consisting of a total of eight KLA12 active line array cabinets and four KS118 active subwoofers — an install twice as large as their original plans. “For every system I install, my philosophy is that I want it to sound as good as the nicest…

White Train Entertainment Uplifts Crossroads Community Church with QSC Line Array

WINNEBAGO, IL (July 9, 2020) — When the Winnebago, Illinois campus of Crossroads Community Church moved into their own building after years of meeting in various rented spaces, they needed a sonic upgrade to replace the portable P.A. systems volunteers had been setting up for their pastors and exuberant worship bands. After performing a thorough analysis of Crossroads’ new home, events specialists White Train Entertainment knew that a QSC active line array would be the perfect fit. They flew four KLA12 cabinets on either side of the stage, tucked a pair of KS212C active cardioid subwoofers underneath, placed two K8.2 active loudspeakers onstage as monitors, and hid two more as front fills. “The capacity is just under 200 people, so it was a big jump for Crossroads to move to a professionally installed line array as opposed to a couple of mobile loudspeakers,” says…
