Q-Sys™ Takes Off at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (May 6, 2011) – Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is undergoing extensive physical and technological renovations, including the addition of new buildings and more planned for the future -- all networking together via QSC’s Q-Sys integrated platform. The first part of FLL’s new evolution was the reintegration of networking systems in Terminal Four. Realizing that their existing networking system had a limited ability to meet the facility’s advancing needs, the airport facility managers consulted with Rod Sintow, CEO of Pro Sound Video, on the kind of system that would serve them best now and into the future. The key considerations were budget, quality, reliability, a system which is energy-efficient, UL rated, and most of all -- the capacity to expand with the planned upgrades of other terminals in years to come. “I recommended…

KW Series Loudspeakers Hit the Nail on the Head

Stowe, VT (April 2011) – The Rusty Nail, one of the largest ski-country nightclubs in the Northeast, has undergone a complete sound and lighting system upgrade by Daddy’s Sound Solutions system designer John DeGange, featuring an assortment of QSC K and KW Series Active Loudspeakers. Since purchasing this destination restaurant and club where skiers enjoy live music and catch the DJ’s after a day on the slopes, owner Stan Swierzewski improved the venue with a new kitchen, and added a green room and VIP room. With these enhancements done, Swierzewski turned to Manchester, NH Daddy’s Sound Solutions to upgrade the venue’s decades-old sound and lighting systems. “With the introduction of the KW Series, it was perfect timing for this install,” says DeGange. “The KW’s larger subs and 3-way cabinets were an excellent choice to fill the dance floor.” With a multi-level…

Q-SYS Networks Germany’s Historic Mainzer Dom Cathedral’s New A/V Retrofit

Mainz, Germany (01 April 2011)-- The thousand year-old Mainzer Dom, (Mainz Roman Catholic Cathedral), one of the most historically important buildings in Western Europe, has undergone a complete A/V refit designed and specified by Rolf Mayer of IFB Consulting, showcasing QSC’s Q-Sys advanced DSP processing system. As Mayer needed to construct a digital backbone that would offer complex routing and low-latency signal transport over standard TCP/IP hardware — ensuring high intelligibility for congregations of up to 4,000 people — he opted for a Q-Sys network constructed around a Core 1000 processor and six I/O Frames. This Romanesque Cathedral, with its striking red fascia, spans a length of 116 meters and has ceiling heights ranging between 28 and 54 meters. From an acoustics perspective this presents the significant challenge of an extraordinarily long reverberation…

University of Rhode Island’s Ryan Center Gets a Smarter System with Q-Sys

Kingston, RI (March 23, 2011) -- The Ryan Center, a $54 million, 7,500 seat multi-purpose arena on the grounds of the University of Rhode Island, is home to a variety of events including family entertainment, concerts, sports competitions, conventions and a host of other community affairs. Recently, Ryan graduated to a much more intelligent sound system with the help of QSC Audio. Growing concerns with the intelligibility and the overall aesthetics of the venue’s P.A. system led the Center to hire respected A/V system consultant, North American Theatrix, to analyze the state of the system. In reviewing the existing installation, NAT determined that a physical re-arrangement of the existing clusters would cost approximately 1/3 of an all-new cluster, not including additional necessary components. However, the manufacturer of that system was not actively supporting this…

Q-Sys Gives Detroit’s Ford Field a Home Field Advantage

Detroit, MI (March 15, 2011) – Major sporting event fans pay big ticket prices to attend games in person, and a large part of their enjoyment depends upon their ability to hear high-quality play-by-play announcements and entertainment over the stadium’s audio system. Here at Ford Field, home of the NFL Detroit Lions, fans are now hearing an enhanced audio experience with the help of QSC’s Q -Sys integrated system platform. The original audio system at Ford Field was comprised of multiple, interconnected DSP systems of varying ages and types – an infrastructure ripe for potential disaster and sorely in need of an audio overhaul. Losing the stadium audio during a game is the probably the worst nightmare that can happen to any technical crew, and the team at Ford Field experienced this first-hand. “The former system was a mixture of analog and networked digital audio…

QSC ILA Helps Coastal Community Church Go Mobile

Coconut Creek, FL – Coastal Community Church, the mobile church which sets up here every Sunday morning to deliver a variety of services including worship, teaching and music, now rolls out a superior sound system each week with a unique mobile QSC ILA Line Array. Coastal Community’s mobile situation required a unique solution, according to Tony Flammia of Creative Sound and Lighting Solutions, one that he only encounters about 5% of the time. While about 95% of these types of church plant situations tend to only require a full range speaker over a sub on each side of the room, Coastal Community needed a more sophisticated line array setup, as the high school auditorium where services are held is wide and shallow, with graduated stadium seating in the back as high as 20 feet off the ground. For Flammia, the challenge was two-fold; he needed to implement a system that…
