Barry Ferrell - Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer

Barry started his career in cinema and pro audio in 1980 as an usher at a local cinema and quickly moved into the projection booth. During college, in addition to his role as a projectionist, he did audio installation and service work for a major theme park.  After a short stint as a field service engineer in the computer industry, he returned to the cinema industry.  In 1985, Barry worked for National Amusements as a union projectionist before moving to Omaha in 1987 to manage the console pre-wire department at Ballantyne Strong. He joined QSC in 1990 as the application engineer for the QSC sales department, and progressed through many different positions at QSC (Regional Sales Manager, Product Manager, Director of Product Strategy, Sr. Director of Cinema Solutions, VP Cinema and Executive Team member). In addition to his corporate role as Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, he continues to lead the cinema team.  Barry is a past president and current board member of the International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) and is a frequent contributor to ICTA technical seminars.

Danny worked for AMC Theatres for five years as Staff Technician, where he supervised all studio screenings in the Los Angeles area, and projection and sound for new theatre construction projects in southern California.  In 1993, he worked for Lucasfilm THX as an Engineer, doing THX theatre certifications and Systems Engineering for the THX Digital Mastering program.  Prior to joining QSC in 2006, Danny was a Re-Recording Engineer and Sound Editor for 20th Century Fox Studios.

Mark began his audio career in 1979 as a recording engineer working in studios in several major cities.  His role expanded to include pro audio systems sales, design, and installation.  His cinema experience includes market development and product marketing for several major audio systems manufacturers, including Bose, JBL Professional, and Eastern Acoustic Works, where he managed cinema sales and marketing.  He’s also spent 10 years as editor of several prominent pro AV technical trade publications.  Mark is on the Board of Directors of the International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA), and has been adjunct faculty member and consultant to InfoComm International, and has provided marketing consulting services for many leading equipment manufacturers.  Mark is currently responsible for all marketing programs for QSC Cinema, including advertising, sales support and training materials, trade shows, PR, and web.  Mark has a B.S. degree in Psychology from St. Lawrence University and an MBA (concentration in Marketing) from Boston College.

Tom Atkison joined USL in 1994 as an electronics technician and has over 23 years of experience in the Cinema industry.  Educated with an Associate’s Degree in electronics, Tom has continued his studies at California Polytechnic State University earning a certificate in Business Management.

Ron’s career in cinema began at age 14, working as an usher.  He quickly advanced to theatre manager of a 4-plex in La Habra, California where his theatre became the number one location on the West Coast and 5th most successful cinema in the U.S.  He’s also been involved with installations for all the major Hollywood studios and private screening rooms for numerous Directors, Producers and Celebrity homes.

His cinema experience includes positions with AMC Theatres, United Artists Theatres, National Cinema Supply, JBL Professional, Ballantyne Strong, and Jack Roe USA. Ron holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, with major in Management from San Diego State University.

Sam Hynds - Cinema Product Specialist

Sam began his career in cinema as a staff projectionist for SoCal Cinemas in 1986, and was responsible for system maintenance for many of the chain’s sites.  After a short stint as a field technician for ASC Technical Services, Sam joined Cinemeccanica US in 2000 as Service Manager and Production Manager, until 2004.  He joined QSC shortly after, and has been QSC’s Cinema Products Specialist ever since.  He’s responsible for cinema system design verification, field technical training, and product and customer support.  Sam has an A.S. degree in electrical engineering from ITT Technical Institute.

Seth started in the Cinema industry on a theatre floor staff in 2004. Within a year he was in the booth running film projectors and maintaining the equipment, and was in charge of projection for several theatres in San Luis Obispo. He still runs projection for local film festivals. In 2012 he joined the USL team, and provides Engineering and Customer Support for the existing and new products.

Steve Hatton

Steve has nearly 20 years of experience in all phases of cinema sound and projection system design, installation, and servicing.  As president of his own service company, Sound and Imaging Concepts, Steve oversaw the installation of hundreds of cinema projects throughout the United States.  Prior to running Sound and Imaging Concepts, Steve worked for Shaver Sound Inc., troubleshooting and maintaining 35mm projection systems and coordinating digital cinema conversions.

As Cinema Sales Engineer, Jay is responsible for pre-sales technical support, product training, and cinema system design consulting.  Jay graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies, where he concentrated in Audio Engineering and completed coursework on electrical engineering, computer science, and music theory. He has worked at GDC Technology as a sound engineer contributing to the rollout of immersive sound products and providing cinema sound support.  Prior to GDC, Jay worked at Ultra-Stereo Labs (USL) in San Luis Obispo as an assistant engineer, where he became versed in many of USL's test and measurement products, media blocks, and cinema processors..

Garrett Oliver

Garrett has many years of experience as a cinema and AV technology specialist. He most recently worked for the USC School of Cinematic Arts providing consulting services and technical support for faculty, staff, and students, as well as serving as the school’s liaison with the major studios and post-production facilities.  Prior to USC, Garrett served as customer service engineer for Christie Digital Systems.  Garrett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from California State University, Long Beach.   

Rod Archer

Rod Archer is based out of the QSC Boulder, Colorado office, and is primarily responsible for product strategy and execution for Q-SYS, Cinema Media Servers, Control and Accessibility Product categories. Rod brings over 30 years of executive product development expertise. Before joining QSC, he was president of Comanche Road Enterprises, LLC. Prior to that, Rod was VP of Cinema Products at Real D, where he was responsible for product development and management of the world’s most successful 3D cinema technology. Rod also served as VP of Engineering and Operations at Phoenix Technologies, and Senior Director of Engineering at Award Software International. Archer holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Ulf comes to QSC with significant experience in planning, project management, and installation of complete cinema sound and projection systems. He began his career in cinema as a projectionist for Cinema Biografen in his hometown of Stromstad, Sweden. Ulf spent over 20 years as Sales Director and then Managing Director with Hjalmar Wilhelmsen AS, a cinema equipment dealer based in Hovik, Norway. After that, Ulf was Key Accounts Manager with Videvox. In 2016, he started his own business as a cinema equipment dealer, Cinema Design.
