    New compact Subwoofer

At ShowEast 2015, QSC introduced the latest in its line of compact, space-saving subwoofers. The new QSC SB-2180 subwoofer is the thinnest dual 18 inch subwoofer on the market.  Each driver is loaded into its own internal chamber. An ingenious folded port design minimizes cabinet depth, yet still provides full port volume.  The port also acts as internal bracing, creating a stiffer, less resonant cabinet. All of this allows the enclosure to be at least 20% thinner than any other dual 18” subwoofer you can buy, occupying up to 40% less floor space in your theatre.  In a multi-theatre complex, that extra square footage translates into more revenue-generating seating or concession space.  And, you can stack four on a shipping pallet, significantly reducing freight costs. “Conventional thinking says that subwoofers must be large, refrigerator-sized enclosures,” says Barry…

Traditional AV Designs and Networked AV Designs

”AV/IT Convergence” is a popular phrase right now. There is no question that it’s happening, but it’s important to know where we are in the process. Sometimes it feels as though IT folks view those of us in the AV industry as the newly born, already annoying baby brother. We were excited to be born into the IT world, but we are still struggling to learn how to speak, get around, communicate, and play in this space. Here’s how you, together with QSC, can adapt and grow… There are two schools of thought in the AV world right now: traditional and network-based AV systems. There is a time and a place for each type of system…for now. We must accept that a network-based AV system is more representative of the future than that of a traditional system—especially if our industry wants to grow into a mature member of the IT family. Here are the differences between the two…

    It’s More Than the Network

Let’s be honest, there are a million ways one could describe AV and IT integration.  It’s true that in this day and age, we can now control just about every device via the network, make our phone calls via the network, and route our audio and video using the network (and only a few projects thus far truly accomplish all three).  So what does “AV/IT convergence really mean?  Most answers will land around IT infrastructure simply meaning “the network”. Truth is, that’s not at all what it means. It’s so much more than the network. So, let’s start with a definition—the way IT defines it. The term IT infrastructure is defined in a standard called Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 which is a combined set of hardware, software, networks, facilities, systems, etc. (including all of the information technology), in order to develop, test, deliver,…

Important Reminder: Update firmware on DPA Series amplifiers and Q-SYS Cores DPA and DPA-Q Series amplifiers are a revolutionary advancement in amplifier technology.  As with any software-controlled electronics, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you regularly check for the latest version software and firmware.  This will ensure that you have access to the latest features and that any “bugs” or other operational irregularities are resolved before they become problematic.   For DPA Series Amplifiers There are two software tools for updating DPA amplifiers: Amplifier Navigator and Amp Restore Utility.  Amplifier Navigator updates the amplifier’s firmware to the current firmware version and preserves all user-defined presets (50 in total).
